Lorenzo Lotto Hat

December 2018

The hat I made for this project is rather simple in concept, but took some time to get the scale right. The brim, made of buckram, millinery wire and velvet is quite large so became an excellent lesson in proportions in relation to both the wearer and the costume itself.

The crown is a large circle of velvet pleated evenly onto the brim. It is padded a little with wadding to give it the desired shape, before being lined with black silk to hold it all in place and be comfortable for the wearer.
